Multi-state implementation of a next generation Policy Administration system for a US based P&C carrier involving multiple specialty lines

Client
The client is a mid-tier US-based insurance services provider that offers specialized insurance products and services including watercraft, mobile home, motorcycle, specialty auto, fire and dwelling hazard insurance.
Opportunity Summary
Our client decided to consolidate and completely modernize its new business and policy administration platform across multiple lines of business using an off-the-shelf policy administration product. By using an online policy administration system built on Internet technologies, the company sought to become more competitive and agile, increase customer retention and lower costs. Watercraft was chosen as the first line of business and California as the first state to build and test various pieces of the application and integration components. Upon successful launch of the first LOB and first state, it was planned to roll it out for 45 other states where the company wrote business. It was also planned to implement it for 3 other lines of business all within a period of 18 months.
Discoverture Solution
The client selected Discoverture as its development partner and wanted it to be engaged in all aspects of the delivery from planning, business analysis, architecture, design, development and testing. Discoverture team worked closely with business and technology stakeholders and was responsible for the following activities that led to an ‘on budget’ and ‘on time’ implementation of the project. 
  • Gathering business requirements and gap analysis
  • Developing enterprise architecture framework
  • UI development for the Policy Administration and Agency interface
  • Rates and Rules development for different lines of business
  • Multi-state implementation for 46 states
  • Application integration with Billing, Claims, Legacy Reporting, Data Warehouse and external data providers
  • Quality Assurance of Policy Admin, Billing and Integration systems
Discoverture global service delivery team consisted of about 20 people including Solution Architects, Business Analysts, Developers and Testers that supplemented internal and vendor resources.
